I cannot recommend TTMIK enough for those studying Korean! Their website is fantastic, they have tons of free resources as well as published books. Everything is easy to understand and really helps you learn. I personally took a introductory Korean class and then am continuing self-study and find TTMIK extremely beneficial. TTMIK even has an app (at least for Android) where you can access all lesson PDF's and MP3 offline on your phone. I listen to lessons whenever I have downtime at work, or anywhere! The workbook is really helpful because it has different exercises for listening, matching, dictation, etc. The dictation portion is really beneficial for learning! I have since purchased all the workbooks and will continue with all that TTMIK has to offer. Great resource by itself for those studying Koreans or an additional resource to people taking classes or brushing up!

Very good workbook. The explanations are clear and I have learned more about Hangul through this. I have ordered the level 1 textbook as well in this series because you can only get to a certain point with just the workbook as I knew would happen. Very good illustrations and it is organized the best I have seen in a Korean learning workbook. Definitely for beginners as there is an answer key in the very back so you can always go back and check your work.

Daughter loves the books. I use them for HOMESCHOOL, however she wanted it as a Christmas gift which was awesome. We use for fun and she's very interested in it. I would highly recommend.

This book begins with a long-winded discourse on the use of language to bamboozle, obfuscate, and exert power, followed by a witty, educational and occasionally biased glossary of economic, financial and banking terms, followed by a long-winded, politically biased afterword. This book would earn a 5th star from me if the discourses before and after the glossary were halved, and if the pages freed up in so doing were used to lengthen the glossary, which is missing words that it really should have. The audio CD version of the book was wonderfully read by a guy whose refined voice and occasionally snarky tone put me off initially; but eventually I realized he was perfect for this book. Five stars for his narration.

I bought this book for my college-age son who plans to major in business or economics at UC Berkeley. I had heard John Lanchester interviewed by Michael Lewis ("Moneyball") and a strong point that Mr. Lanchester made in that interview was that he wrote this book for the many people who don't understand money terms and sometimes pretend like they do. When I gave it to my son he thanked me profusely and started reading it right away. He thinks it's very useful for him right now and will continue to help him in his future career.

This is very interesting and informative. I thought I knew all the terms defined in this book, but Lanchester has a very different view of the matter, and I learned a lot about economics. He's very good at giving a concrete explanation of what seems abstract.FWIW, I also like Lanchester's talk 'Marx at 193' in the London Review of Books, which is what led me to this book in the beginning. Lanchester is not a Marxist, but he is very sympathetic to the central questions of Marx's writing. While he may not agree with Marx's answers, the questions still bear thinking about.

I can't say enough about how informative this book is.John Lanchester has an uncanny nack for articulating verbal mysteries that you didn't even realize you had been wondering about.Example: It had never occurred to me that the word "fiscal" and the word "monetary" had different meanings.But they do.And now I know what they mean.If you read this book, you will too.John Lanchester, sir, you are a boss.Thanks for writing this book.

John Lanchester doesn't work in finance but started to have an interest in the terms that he was hearing and reading mainly during the financial crisis which is what makes the book so understandable. Don't expect a story, this book is more like a dictionary full of phrases for people who have an interest in learning finance and financial language.

Very well written and presented. Better than that a brilliant perspective on the ethical behaviour of us all in relationship to money and how it harms and helps the global community. Whatever you do read the AFTERWORD as it will give you insight and language to make your discussions with others more meaningful and more influential.

While I knew most of the content already, I learned from the new words. I especially enjoyed the Epilog discussion focusing on the state of the world's economy and future expectations. In all, an easy to digest compendium.

This one is so full of information, it's hard to get through. Keep at it, though. It's worth it, There are so few things that give you any semblance of fiscal education that it's well worth the time it takes to read this.

Apparently this is Amazon's fault, th book seller contacted me and even gave me a refund which I didn't want, but they did it anyway. I feel like Amazon should send them the money, it was only $10 altogether.....I'd still like to purchase the 1999 edition of this book but now don't know how to do it as the cover shown by the book sellers is just a generic cover and does not match the book cover advertised by Amazon. So if I actually order it again, I might wind up with the same 1976 edition for the third time.....How to solve this problem I don't know, only Amazon could do that.Thank you,Sincerely,Mike Juren

As a wannabe spelunker, it is fascinating to catch a glimpse into a world that in all likelihood, I will never experience first hand. I love the detail that goes into the book, it is just technical enough that I can understand it, without being way over my head!And having read several other books on cave explorations, it is fascinating to hear the stories from a different viewpoint.

Nicely written account of a fascinating form of exploration requiring personal qualities as diverse as a well-developed scientific curiosity, bravery, and a sense of high romance. This is real adventure at its best.

I'm not a cave diver but I still thought this was a great read. The chapter on photography was painful, but I still give it 5-stars for the overall book. I wish Mr. Burgess would update this book with current cave diving records and achiement stories or even a sequel.

The content was good. The editing needed improvement. As a diver it was very interesting but did not make me want to become a cave diver.

Very interresting though rather technical in spots.. A fascinating sport but not for the faint hearted!WOW

As a pharmacy student, this is wonderful to keep information fresh and to give me knowledge when I forget or to look something up. Instead of going through thousands of pages I can flip through this and get a refresher. It is great for review. I suggest this for anyone in pharmacy school or as a pharmacist. I do wish it went into more detailed information on the drugs and disease states, but it did not. Though, sometimes I forget the little things that it can help with. For the price it isn't bad. That is what I thought it would do. However, do not let this deter you from purchasing this - as a fresh student this is still extremely helpful!

Great study chart. Needs to be updated. For example, Schedule 1: C-1, High abuse potential; not legal; no acceptable medical use; no prescriptions available. Heroin, LSD, cocaine, marijuana, methaqualone.It has been proven that medical marijuana is an Rx with proven benefits to people suffering from chronic pain, migraines, seizures, etc.Also, cocaine has a medical approved use as a "topical cocaine" when used in conjunction with surgery to numb the patient. So, it needs to be updated. I haven't gone over the whole thing.

This product was not really useful for my needs as it was way to general. It basically has boxes that list drugs in catagories such as NSAIDS, Androgens, Opiods, Anticoagulants etc... then gives a brief description of what these class of drugs do a short paragraph on adverse reactions and a few common names of the class of drug.

It's a great little quick reference. Obviously, with the thousands of meds available, it comes nowhere near being a complete reference, but it is helpful for a quick glance for main drug classes.

I purchased this to study for the pharmacy technician certification exam but I honestly didn't use it much. There's not a lot of questions concerning pharmacology on the exam. However, it appears to be a pretty decent, inexpensive study guide.

Basic, didn't find it very accurate.I believe there is info on the back page that isn't correct. Didn't include medications that are common as a point of reference. I thought it would be more in depth as to how the pharmacology actually works. Wouldn't waste money on this.

Ok I guess but not something I would call "must have". Very very basic.

Love it. I always seem to forget little things and this has a lot of useful information for me. I am a Pharmacology Student and use this all the time when studying and doing work in class. A few of my classmates even went and bought one after they glanced over mine.

Brief summary and review, no spoilers.This novel takes place in England and the time period is right after the reign of the legendary King Arthur - which is all somewhat deliberately vague. The storyline centers around the travels of 5 main characters.The first two characters we meet - and indeed in many ways the central two characters - are an elderly couple who leave their village in search of their son. Their memories are fading and they are not sure where their son is or even what he looks like anymore. Their reason for leaving their village are hazy as well; ostensibly something to do with their being denied a candle by other villagers.The other characters are a young boy, a brave warrior and a valiant old knight.So much of the storyline is dreamlike and vague and I believe your ultimate enjoyment and satisfaction of this novel is based on the premise that the less you know the better, so I will only say a bit more without causing any spoilers.We know that the characters all unite at some point. We know that they are all on different missions. Their goals are seemingly unclear but will become clear at the end.I loved this book. At the same time I have to say that it was not a quick read for me and there were points up until midway when I thought about giving up on it. Part of this was that I am not usually a fan of books that are somewhat "dreamlike" or surreal and I usually like my stories more straight-forward and grounded. There are lots of points in this book where you feel your own memory is fading; indeed what it might be like to have dementia. That Ishiguro pulls this off so effectively is impressive but daunting for the reader.So for me, this book took a bit of work, but I was so glad by the time I finished that I had read it. The prose, as with any of the other book by this author, is just gorgeous. You really don't want to skip one word and you really shouldn't.I do promise you that it all comes together beautifully by the end, and it was quite an emotional read for me. The storyline is so heartfelt and very mythic in feel and Ishiguro has some poignant and powerful things to say about love and vengeance, morals and ethics and about memory and reflection. Just amazing.Highly recommended.

I have never read anything quite like this ever before..The Buried Giant is part fable, part road-story, part exploration of character: when the point of the journey and the backstory becomes clear, it was as if a light came on. I can think of some people who'd find this writing infuriating: the whole way in which it's handled makes it hard to work out whether what's being described is the world as it is or the world as it's being seen by the characters. Once I'd decided simply to allow the author's approach to work itself out, I loved it: but, as I say, it's a really strange book, a really strange way of writing. And: please note my star rating: once I'd finished it, I thought it brilliant!( I went on to read some of the author's other works: they're quite different, both from this and really, from each other: but just as skilfully written! I now have a new author to follow)

Is memory a treasure that gives our lives meaning and shapes our identities--or a curse that keeps us from feeling love and acceptance in the present?The Buried Giant is an ideal example of what rich, meaningful, challenging literary fantasy can do.It's reminiscent of Ishiguro's own work (Never Let Me Go similarly exemplifies the potential of literary science fiction) but also of the philosophical, allegorical, character-driven fantasy of Mervyn Peake, Gene Wolfe, Ursula Le Guin, and Margo Lanagan (whose amazing Tender Morsels is also a must-read), among others. Imagine Wolfe's Wizard Knight series with its Arthurian setting and unpredictability but with elderly protagonists, a smaller cast, and a focus on memory (and how it can provide meaning and also create pain--for individuals and nations) and you'll have a good picture of what to expect from The Buried Giant.Literal events are comprehensible with some effort (despite shifting points of view and breaks in chronology as characters start stories and only later explain the events leading up to them), but the novel leaves open profound questions about love, war, violence, and memory. It's also consistently beautiful and engaging at the sentence level--unlike in much generic fantasy (which sometimes presents elaborate worlds and plots but falls flat in emotion, dialogue, and characterization), characters each speak and act in completely distinct ways, and there is wit and meaningful, often moving emotions in the smallest incidents. The novel is more about its characters and themes than its plot, and it isn't dependent on lots of things happening, but by the end, the lives of the characters, and the shape of their world, are indeed fundamentally changed.Unfortunately, books like this often disappoint the two groups of readers who give them a chance: readers of realistic literary fiction, who are turned off that it's fantasy, which they foolishly see as subliterary (even though most of the history of literature before the development of realism actually consists of what we'd now consider fantasy, and the kind of primarily commercial fantasy thought to define the genre is merely an invention of the last few decades), and readers of generic/commercial fantasy, whose conventional expectations (a standard quest, action, completely clear storytelling, an enormous amount of world-building, etc.) will be frustrated by the novel's literary style and focus on character and theme.But for those who can appreciate literary fantasy (my own favorite form of literature), it will be magical--the kind of book to read and reread and give to others in the hopes they will feel the same.
