I really like the look and layout of this book. I will be vising both Montreal and Quebec for the first time in a few months so I got this book as a primer to learn more about the cities and what we should do while there. This book is definitely more Montreal based with less focus on Quebec (but we'll be in Montreal for longer so that suits our needs just fine!) It has an easy layout for browsing if you're not really sure what you're looking for. It also has an interesting "Understand Montreal and Quebec City" which has some details on the history and such of each city, which I think is a nice touch. As I haven't actually gone on the trip yet I can't attest to it's usefulness on the fly (although it is quite small and light so I expect it will be easy to carry around with us while on the move) but I'm looking forward to browsing these pages while we plan what we want to do in these cities!

Lonely Planet has always been my go-to for straightforward lowdown and insider tips. The organization has always been just as straightforward. Not so in this book, which combines Montreal with Quebec City. I was only in Montreal, so did not need the Quebec info, but even still, I found the organization difficult to follow at times. Neighborhood references overlap and can be hard to follow. Also, it seems like the recommendations are tilted toward the expensive, obvious end of the scale. For example, the recommended "thrift stores" along St.-Laurent are the pricey, "vintage" stores. I liked Eva B., which I found on Yelp! It was truly funky, cheap, the real thing.

On our recent trip to Montréal and Québec City, this book was marginally helpful. We attended the Rogers Cup at Uniprix Stadium in Montréal - a major tennis tournament. The guide had absolutely no references to this location which was a major venue. If you see an entry of a restaurant or shopping you like, there is no guidance on which metro line or stop to take! So it didn't help much. The sections of the city (Montréal) were accurately described. However, the writing seemed biased and not neutral. Would have preferred a truly diverse, unbiased guide. The section for Québec City had no mention of shopping, restaurants, only the history of the town and photos. Disappointing.

I bought the Kindle version and I am glad I did. It is so convenient to use the links they provide throughout the book to search for in-depth information. The book was full of all or most of what you would want to know before going. I nearly gave it a 4-star rating as I don`t like the page numbering and ability to navigate around Kindle- unless I don`t know what I am doing. I wasn`t able to enlarge the print on the section dealing with basic French language- and the print was a bit too small. I needed a magnifying glass. Still, I feel this book has, as do most every if not all, lonely planets, given me all that I need to know to not only have a successful trip, but also get to know the cities better even though I can`t visit most place given limited time and resources.

This book was excellent for our trip to Montreal/Quebec, although we were not there long enough to see as much as we would have liked. It is even more fun to go back and read up on all the places we did see. It was nicely divided into sections and had good maps, including a pull out one.

I really enjoyed my trip to Montreal by this book. It contains a lot of hot spots of East Canada, and information about other things are almost correct. I highly recommend to use this book when you travel to Montreal or Quebec

I think this book would be excellent in the hard copy edition. I love Lonely Planet travel guides as they give you practical information and insites that other guides miss. The kindle edition was difficult for me to use while I was in Montreal due to the lack of an index. I am older and am used to finding information by looking at an index and going to the page number. However, I will now go through it and read it for fun. In the future, I will continue to purchase Lonely Planet guides, but probably will get them in the hard copy format. The pictures are gorgeous in the book for the kindle edition and the information was spot on.

Pretty solid LP guide for Montreal. Quebec City piece needs some work though as does the day trip section out of montreal and quebec city. Some solid restaurant and neighborhood recommendations. A little outdated on prices and some locations at this point.

I found this book at a time when I was really struggling with the caring for my mother. This book is incredibly helpful in pointing out the, sometimes, obvious challenges of care giving and offers real life solutions. I don't normally mark up a book but this one is full of different colored hilighting, notes and dog-eared pages. I found myself among many of the stories. It brought to light thoughts and perspectives that I had not considered since I was too busy surviving life at it was.The strongest point the book makes it to set reasonable limits. Burning yourself out does no one any good. Much like the advice given in first aid class or on an airplane - keep yourself safe so that you can help others around you (put your oxygen mask on first). You have to be okay in order to be of any help to those around you OR to yourself. One of the few quotes in the book is "When confronted by an ocean of need, bring a cup". I have this on my refrigerator to remind me that I cannot bail out another person's ocean of need, but I can bring some relief without drowning myself.I agree that the title is a bit misleading. This book is helpful for those who have had less than an open, loving relationships with their parent(s), but it offers practical information to anyone in a care giving role.I keep this book handy and refer to it often, especially on the days I am trying to keep my head above the "ocean's waters."

Overall this is a book that really needed to be written. If you are faced with decisions and have complicated emotions about about your aging, sick parents -- for example your parents were mean, hostile or just had too many issues of they own to connect with their own children then you won't be disappointed with this book. However, it's not a "how to" kind of a book but more of a place to begin thinking and reflecting on our connections or lack thereof with our parents. The only section that I found to be extremely outdated in thought and advice is the area regarding males and their relationships to the mother. This section made me sad as more contemporary thinking strongly suggests that males strongly benefit from having equal connections with their mothers as they do their fathers. Excellent material exists such as; The Mama's Boy Myth: Why Keeping Our Sons Close Makes Them Stronger by Kate Stone Lombardi, M.S. or Deep Secrets: Boy's Friendships and the Crisis of Connection Niobe Way, Ph.D. are a good place to start if you interested in the topic.Other than this section specific section I really liked this book and thought it was long overdue!

Great book and very insightful for those who need to begin the journey of physically caring f or an ailing or elder parent whom they do not have that good of a relationship with. As with all self-help publications you MUST be able and willing to step out of your comfort zone and make changes in the way you have programmed yourself to deal with the issues surrounding the circumstance in order to make progress. If your seeking a quick fix or to be patronized regarding your feelings toward your personal situation then this book is not for you. Be prepared to do some in depth soul searching and realization thinking to enable you to move forward in the situation. The book calls it as it is and at times a bit gruff on oneself BUT then again that is what healing and the journey is all about. The information contained will wither enlighten you or literally piss you off. You come to realize you ultimately are the only one responsible for your own feelings and you are the only one who can make the necessary growth in order to overcome and deal with the parenting situation.Take it from one who has played the game for over 53 years. Bite the bullet and dive in head first. It will not be easy and sometimes it will be three steps forward and four steps back but eventually you will get to a peaceful place with your parent. Do not wait until it's too late as the regret will do much more harm than what you have carried with you all these years regarding you and your parent.Best of luck and be patient and good to yourself while on this journey as it can be a life changing and uplifting experience when all is said and done.

This book helped me to see that ambivalence towards my Father was normal and the need to give what I can afford to give him is enough without guilt, for that I am extremely grateful too Roberta. Thank you, Delores B

The interviews in this book were very enlightening, giving me some new insights into the situations that I, and apparently many others, are going through with aging parents. I did sympathise with many of the adults, and I guess the only shortcoming of the book was that I expected it to provide me with solutions. I realize that may be impossible to receive from a book, but I do think I gained a lot by the empathy I felt to others who deal with the same insolvable and sometimes intolerable situations. I would recommmend this book to those just beginning to feel the pull to help their parents so that some strategies may be of help in the earliest stages before patterns are set.

Loved this. Compassionate, honest look at responsibility for aging parents who were not "good" parents. I am grateful to those who shared their experiences. It helped me tremendously.

This is one of the best books that I have come across on this subject of. Taking care of elderly parent when you have a bad relationship with them.

This book was exactly what I was looking for. Really hits home and is helping through some emotions I am dealing with given my current situation.

a beautiful book full of unicorns to color! i love this book so so so much!

I really enjoy Marty Noble's coloring book designs and am pleased that she has come out with one with unicorns. While the coloring book is based on a single subject, her treatment makes for a wide variety of designs. Some are flowing and elegant while others have a more stylized look to them. In most designs there is a single unicorn but there are others which involve a beautiful maiden or several unicorns. There are even rectangular shaped unicorn mandalas. Ms. Nobel's unique style is recognizable in each of these designs. The designs are detailed (including backgrounds and/or framing.) A few of the designs have small and intricate areas to color. On the whole, I don't think it is a difficult book to color in due to small shapes. The designs present a nice challenge and have plenty of room to try blending and shading techniques as well as embellishments to the original design(s).This is what I experienced when coloring in this book and testing my coloring medium on the paper.31 beautiful and elegant unicorn designs by Marty NoblePrinted on one side of the pagePaper is medium weight, white, lightly rough and perforatedGlue bound but pages can be removed easily at perforations.Designs stop before the perforations. There is a framing line at the outer edges of each design for a more finished look. The book opens fairly flat by creasing/breaking the spine.Alcohol and water based markers bleed through to some degreeGel pens and India ink pens leave shadows of color on the back of the pageColoring pencils work well with this paper. Both wax and oil based pencils lay down good color, layer (same and different colors) and blend well using a pencil style blending stick. Hard lead pencils leave dents on the back of the page.I remove pages or use a blotter page of card stock or several sheets of heavyweight paper to keep ink and dents from marring the pages below.

I preordered this a few months ago but was unsure of what I would get because most, if not all, of the Unicorn coloring books aren't that fantastic. This one IS!! I love Creative Haven and have a ton of their coloring books and this is a terrific addition to my collection. I've already ordered three more for gifts. If you love Unicorns, this is a MUST HAVE! You will not be disappointed!

I adore the Creative Haven coloring book line and this book didn't disappoint me. Each page is one sided letting you color with markers if you choose to. I would still suggest a page or two between the page you are working on and the next just in case of bleed through especially if you are working with an alcohol based marker. The images themselves are quite beautiful and some have quite a good bit of detail to them. These are going to be fun to color!

Such a beautiful colouring book! Lots of great designs and like all Creative Haven books the pages are perforated for easy removal and the pages are bright white and a bit heavier than other books. Love it!

I love this book. I have a few unicorn coloring books and this phone is my favorite so far. As you would normally expect from Creative Haven, the paper is nice and thick, the artwork is drawn clearly and the detail is rather intricate. This allows you to create colorful, sparkly and magical pictures while relaxing and having a blast!

Wow...can't wait to start.Nice combination of complexity and simplicity. I won't get bored.

The unicorns in this book are very pretty and I like to color. I collect unicorns so coloring them is almost therapeutic. I only like to color pretty unicorns though some books have unicorns that are chibi or fat and silly. These are elegant and majestic more for adults than kids.

The pictures were nice and clear. They’re printed on one side of the paper only and have perforation for easy removal from the book. The paper is decent, but not that thick, so if you want to use markers while keeping the pages in the book, I’d reccomend putting a couple peices of scrap paper under the page being worked on.
