About the Author
Gregory Orr has written twelve poetry collections, a memoir, and several books of essays and criticism. Prior to his retirement, he taught for more than forty years at the University of Virginia, where he established its MFA program and served as its first director. The recipient of an Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters as well as fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, Orr lives in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Absolutely superb book. I would love to see it in the hands of every poet I know, no matter their experience level.
Professor Orr writes with sensitivity and long experience teaching and reading poetry. I see him as a significant mentor. So glad I found him and his book.
Gregory Orr is someone who believes poetry can save your life. And he wants to tell you how. This is about poetry as a method of healing and bringing order.
Excellent book for any would-be poet and every is poet. Chapter 9, Singing, nearly alone warrants the cost of this book. The author's description of the more complex music possible in poems is something I've believed myself, and practice, but have never in a book for poets, and rarely heard in classrooms.
