Wow! What an incredible resource for writing teachers! Sara and Michael have created a framework for students,to stimulate ideas and support them in organizing their thoughts and creating varied ways to express them. They incorporate language, weaving in lessons on vocabulary, simile, metaphor, and personification. Lessons in point of view and repeating themes are provided in multiple text types including narrative, opinion, expository, and poetry. ( a treasure of ideas). At the forefront is writing with purpose! This is such an easy to follow book for teaching writing in an inspirational way. Sara and Michael provide incredible online resources including videos of them in action, and Power point slides to teach every lesson. I believe From Striving to Thriving Writers is going to help guide me to better writing instruction. It provides a structure to teach skills but still holds the importance of choice for students. I have tried one lesson and kids were so successful as they wrote, revised and wrote again. And they had lots of fun because the lesson was very engaging. I had fun too!

I just received my book, and I love it, however, where do I find the "go sheets"?

I was hooked when I first read From Striving to Thriving by Stephanie Harvey and Annie Ward, so the minute I saw this book I knew it was a MUST READ. I'm so grateful that the message that began in the first book continues in this new book. I believe that these wonderful resources can work in unison so that the reciprocal nature of reading and writing is both acknowledged and celebrated in practice. Wonderful suggestions!

So far, I am impressed with how easy this guide is to use. I was able to flip through the lessons, choose one, log onto the digital resources (link is in the book) and teach a lesson! The first one I tried was the Personification lesson in Framework 5. The lesson in the book was teacher friendly, and the power point photos on the slides were engaging for the students (and a great ready-to-use tool for us busy teachers!). I was able to print out the “Go-Sheet,” pop open the presentation, and start teaching! I liked that I was able to save/rename the power point and add new slides as we went through the co-constructing writing process to create personification poems. Additionally, the way the book is put together is great too--so many examples of student work as well as photos of the lessons in action. And, I like the spiral binding because it allows the book to lay flat when I am teaching. I am looking forward to trying more of the lessons!

I am a veteran English teacher and over the last 18 years I have been introduced to many writing programs. My different districts have changed resources, methodology, and programs many times. After using a few lessons in Striving to Thriving, it's easy to see how this will fit with ANY writing program your school district adapts. Not only in English class too...I plan to share this resource with my team teachers also. There are so many great ways to bring writing cross-curricular.Thanks for an easy to use, meaningful and adaptable resource for our ever-changing curriculum!

I suggested this book for a school book club solely on the strength of the From Striving to Thriving Reading book. That book brought together an incredible amount of research and knowledge about what works in teaching reading. This book seems to ignore the past two decades of writing research and instead wants to send us back to the days of worksheets and scripted, inauthentic writing responses.I do not doubt that using these "frameworks" will get some real neat sounding writing, but if you are a believer in the writers workshop or giving children authentic opportunities to write, this book is not for you.The authors are two world-renowned poets who, as far as I can tell don't seem to have any actual classroom experience, so I guess it shouldn't be surprising how much poetry is in the book. It's just more than a little disappointing that scholastic tried to package this book of worksheets as a compliment to Striving to Thriving Reading, which it does not resemble in the slightest.

This a fun, fast read - I completed it in one sitting. Mainly because I could not stop laughing and was fascinated by the crazy lengths famous ladies went to lose weight. (Fun fact: Greta Garbo subsisted on three weeks on nothing but spinach after a studio head told her she was too fat for American tastes.)This brave writer actually tried all these diets, in the name of journalism. UGH! The Marilyn Monroe diet alone would have killed me. And Jackie O.'s stringent caviar and baked potato plan sounds heinous.I would love to read a sequel to this book. What did Mae West dine on? Did Marie Antoinette live solely on cake? Inquiring minds want to know!

This was a very witty book that had me literally laughing out loud in certain places. Some of the celebrities chosen, though, were from so long ago, that their diets were very outdated. I also question why some were chosen, like Prince William's sister-in-law. Overall, though, I did enjoy reading this. It was a nice, light read, pardon the pun.

This book is simple and basic fun. It's an interesting look into the lives and diets of celebrities from a writers point of view. The author is fun and interesting and definitely devoted to giving anything a try. This isn't going to give an in depth analysis of any ones diets and rituals, it's all fun and experimenting

Mildly amusing. While we are interested in celebrity diets and eating habits, the topic is really too slight for an actual book. Herapproach is to share as much about their workouts as what it is like to eat the food. The book is a reach and she didn't even maximize what she had to work with.

Very funny read. My favorite parts were the dinner parties. I think toward the end I was a little over the experiment-- as I am sure Ms. Harrington was as well. It was a joke that carried on a little too long for me. That being said, I still enjoyed this read and would recommend it to anyone wanting a laugh!

Super easy and quick book filled with funny comments and some relatable comments. Fun and simple book that is easy to understand.

Fresh and funny. I loved hearing about Ms. Harrington's adventures in dieting. Some of these celebrity diets are such a ridiculous farce, it's perfect that she tried them and let us know which are good, which are worthless and which ones are just worth a hearty laugh.

Yes, as promised (threatened) at the end of Monster Musume Vol. 6, Mia's, Papi's, and Centorea's mothers are coming to visit, but fortunately on separate days, allowing Kimihito...nowhere near enough time to recover between visits.Mia's Mama is the first to come, and the biggest reveal here is the details on Lamian tribal mating practices, both historical and post-treaty, and Mia's intended role in the latter.Next, is Papi's Mommy, and again the biggest reveal here is the details on Harpy mating practices, which, like Lamian mating practices, also require human males because there are no male harpies just like there are no male lamias. An explanation is also offered for harpies' "birdbrain" behavior. It seems there is an old Japanese proverb stating that chickens forget what they are doing after taking three steps, and it apparently applies quite literally to harpies.Finally, is Centorea's Mother, and again the biggest reveal here is the details on traditional centaur mating practices and how they are changing in the face of opposition from the current generation of female centaurs who are voting with their..., uh,... that is to say, more and more are refusing to have children the old-fashioned way. Naturally, being so much alike Centorea and her Mother come to a meeting of the minds on this...after they fight a duel.Last of all Ms. Smith tries to give Kimihito a good hard nudge in the direction of choosing a bride so he decides to quit running for his life and to start hearing them out about their feelings about him,...which has to be the worst decision he's ever made and results in so many neardeath experiences...that he starts recognizing the other people there at death's door with him.Finally, a fed up Rachnera lassos him to (relative) safety and proceeds to lecture him about taking such idiotic chances with his life, but it turns out that he can read her even better than she can read him. Then the rest of the would-be brides show up in Rachnera's attic to rescue Kimihito's virtue and life (in that order), and thanks largely to Su everybody survives the subsequent high speed journey to the ground floor.So the house will be receiving extensive repairs, and you know what that means.Road Trip: Monster Musume Vol. 8!

Well the days have arrived - the mothers visitations are here. Now our hero is expecting some nice quiet time, but when not only each one is as sexy as their daughters - they almost have as many issues. How can Kazuha put up with a snake woman trying to kidnap him for a harem party, a harpy who looks like a cast member of Jersey Shore, and a centaur who has a secret about her past that involves her daughter? But that is not all as Smith tries to push for an answer to the marriage question, and he tries to face each girls feelings head on. Can he and the house survive the hijinks, and why is he always seem to be in a field with Lala after each one?This volume really pushes the edge on fan service, hilarity, and straight comedy. If you enjoy the series this one is one not to be missed as you feel for each girl as they each face their hearts for the one that they all love (except for Lala who is there to protect him from Death). Suu comes up with the most likely answer, but the question is how can they pull it off? I can not wait for the next one, which we have to wait until next year for.

The everyday life with monster girls continue...I think I don't have to say much anymore because this is the 7th vol. already so yea.It is still good and funny like in Vol. 1. Waiting for Vol. 8 to be released​!

It's Monster Musume, good, raunchy, monstrous fun!

I love this series of book a got comedy action little romance but it's not for anyone under 17 it got some adult contents. Can't wait for number 8 want to get that one pre-order sent becomes available

This book was perfect for some of our little friends finding it hard to adjusting to preschool transitioning. It actually bought tears to several little friends eyes, because it was that easy for them to relate and understand. It was an award winner for our center and parents. it truly helped with our transitioning process.

This is such a sweet book with great illustrations. I have been reading it to my son since he was 18 months old and about to start daycare. While I can't say that the book has helped with the separation anxiety when I drop him off at daycare, I do know that he loves to read this book because now at 23 months old he repeats "all day long" when it appears in the book.

I gave this book to my daughter whose two-year-old just started preschool, and she tells me it has helped so much with his adjustment. The refrain has become a kind of "mantra" of reassurance for him--not unlike carrying around a security blanket. His mother has personalized the text, reminding him that "I love you when you're at school, I love you when you miss me ( but I ALWAYS come back), I love you when you're playing with blocks, I love you when the teacher is reading you a story, I love you when you're having fun on the playground." She also reminds him at home that "I love you when you're taking a nap, I love you when you make a mess, I love you when I'm angry with you, I love you all day long!" He also enjoys filling in his own examples. A wonderful, warm story with a helpful message for toddlers!

Very simple and cute book. My little one now paraphrases the “tag line” to me frequently “I love you when you’re with me and I love you when you’re away.” Seemed to reallly resonate with her and the tantrums when we leave have subsided.

We've used the saying. "mommy/daddy loves you all day long", when leaving in reference to the book and our 23 month old gets it. Good story for young ones, to help figure out them figure out grown ups come back.

I read this book to my preschool class. It is comforting, nurturing, and very sweet. I enjoyed reading it as much as they enjoyed hearing it. The illustrations simple but powerful and really add to the story.

This is a super sweet book. My three year old seemed to appreciate it and she was able to follow the story. I bought it around the beginning of preschool so that my daughter could get used to the idea of me being away from her... but remembering that I am coming back and I love her whether we are together or not.

Fit good except for the throttle valve. Had to use the one off the old carb. Other than that works great.

About the Author

Lynne A. Weikart was associate professor at Baruch College School of Public Affairs, City University of New York, until her retirement. She is currently a practitioner in residence at James Madison University, where she teaches budgeting and financial management. Before her academic career, she held several high-level government positions, including budget director of the Division of Special Education in New York City (NYC) public schools and executive deputy commissioner of the New York State Division of Human Rights. For several years, she also served as the executive director of a nonprofit, City Project, a progressive fiscal think tank focused on reforming NYC’s resource allocation patterns. Weikart’s current research focuses on resource allocation in urban areas as well as on urban finance, and she has published many articles on these subjects. She is author of Follow the Money: Who Controls New York City Mayors? (2009) and the coauthor with Greg Chen of Budgeting and Financial Management for Nonprofits (2012). The latter was CQ Press. She won the Luther Gulick Award for Outstanding Academic from the New York Metropolitan Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration in 2001.

Unusually underwhelming. This topic is full of life - and this book does a somewhat decent job of getting the points across. My issue is that after reading the chapters, and having homework assigned there are questions that are not explained throughout the chapter. Case and point: Chapter 3, assignment 3.2 - where does this chapter go into detail about how to include safety of margin in your calculations? It merely passes by this info briefly in their "consultation example" on page 53 (or so). This happens on each assignment where I feel like I really understood the chapter, and then I am assigned questions that were not explained to me in enough depth to have them answered correctly. It's slightly annoying, and wastes my time.

Just another book for school. Although my teacher did find mistakes in it and there are assignment questions that don't give you all the needed information to answer properly.

The book was fairly easy to read for those with a rudimentary understanding of finance. However typos were extremely distracting for assignments

Too expensive and the content doesn't worth it.

Terrible condition. Front cover is about to fall off and all of the chapters have highlighter marks and notes written on the pages

Great book for arts administrators

This book had good information and was delivered to me quickly. I wish that the chapters were listed at the top of the page to make navagating through it a bit easier. Overall I was satisfied with this purchase.
