This book is AMAZING!!! I am in love with it! A lot of the reviews said it was "dated" but an alphabet is an alphabet, it is all about what you are doing with it and this book has every alphabet you could ever need and then some! I was having a lot of trouble finding uppercase and lowercase alphabets to work together with and this has tons of them! It also has lots of varying sizes and styles! Not all of them are pictured in full color completed but there are so many it would never fit in the book, plus many of them really don't need to be pictured to get a good idea of what they will look like. Those that have a lot of detail that would need (want) the imagery are pictured. My only issue now is I need more time and money for the supplies to make the billion projects now floating through my head! They were even kind to this beginner and didn't just assume I would know all the fancy tricks and have a section to help me learn what I am doing with all this new found craftiness! Until now all I could find for alphabets was little craft books that were a few pages with half a dozen alphabets at most. This is HUNDREDS of pages with multiple alphabets on some pages and some larger ones that take a few pages to cover! The borders are cute as are a few little icon style pictures but the real treat of this book is the alphabets!

For those of you who are looking for alphabets and borders, this is a very good book. Here are the categories: Floral Alphabets, Antique Alphabets, Country Alphabets, Victorian Alphabets, Elegant Alphabets, Baby Alphabets (very cute; one of the baby alphabets uses a design of diaper pins for the letters...remember those?), Kids Alphabets, Animal Alphabets, Special Occasion Alphabets, Holiday Alphabets (Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas), Cross-Stitch Basics, and General Project Instructions. The borders are mixed in throughout the book. On p. 314, the book even supplies a conversion chart so you can figure out the size of your finished project based on what size cloth you use, which is helpful. All in all, a very nice resource. Remember that while some of these older cross-stitch books seem a little dated, sometimes substituting different colors can make all the difference. You can even modernize these using one color (like blackwork and redwork). I bought a used copy that is in great shape, so the value was really good.

This definitely is a BIG book of Alphabets and Borders and it also has the quality of BH&G behind it. Published in 1994, You name it, it's in there. Not all motifs are illustrated and photographed. Many are. Just not all. But the charting, in black and white, will get you through. These pieces must have been used at some time because each letter grouping and often the letters themselves come with a specific color codeing. There is everything from a perfume bottle alphabet to a lovely chemise with floral border and elegant lettering. Children's themes(for all ages,) are included. There are pictures of specific pieces using the different motifs periodically. Things are organized by theme in the Table of Contents. There is a brief introduction to the designers which is unusual and nice to know. No matter what your taste, this is something I think you'll be glad to have. Some of the alphabets are large, some small, all interesting, particularly for those working pieces with someone specific in mind or wanting a monogram in an unusual lettering for a pillow, sampler, linens or article of cothing. All ages and styles of writing are included. Did you ever know BH&G to leave something out? Didn't think so.

I asked about cross stitch books/transfers at a local crafts store, and the clerk shook her head. Now maybe she was way too young to know. But I turned to Amazon and found this BIG BOOK OF ALPHABETS AND BORDERS, which is exactly what I was looking for. I am jumping into next year's Christmas crafts early, and the BIG BOOK has an assortment of patterns from Victorian fancy to whimsical. No matter what age the recipient of your craft is or gender or purpose of the craft, you will find something unique in this book. I am so glad to have bought it for now and all future cross stitching.

This book has a lot of great alphabets in it. They come in many sizes. I have noticed mistake in some of them though--for example most of the rows of letters will be 13 stitches high but one row will somehow only be 12 stitches high. Hopefully they fixed these issues in later versions of the book. As long as you plan out your pattern before you stitch it's nothing that you can't figure out how to easily fix the problems.

It's obviously an older book but has lots of patterns you could use or expand on. The downside is there are very few colored pictures of the samples. I was given the dubious task of making a photograph album/guest book for a 50th Wedding Anniversary using hand stitching and cross stitching which I have not done either one in the last 30yrs.

This is a very nice book, I have been cross stitching for a long time, and this book had alphabets I had never seen before. However, most of the patterns didn't have color pictures to show how they look finished.

As always, you can trust Better Homes and Gardens to deliver the best. I'm very pleased with the assortment of borders and alphabets, as well as the suggestions for colors and combinations. I've been searching craft stores throughout Winston-Salem and been unable to find anything to fit the bill, but Amazon and BHG came through for me again. Highly recommend them both!

This book, "When is Marriage Null" is an English translation of a 1998 Italian book of journal articles fleshing out the canonical grounds of marriage nullity. The author, Fr. Paolo Bianchi, sought to implement the particular law of the Italian Episcopal Conference in reference to educating the parochial "first responders" in facilitating the examination of non-superficial indications or legitimate grounds regarding the case of the potential plaintiff seeking a declaration of nullity prior to approaching a diocesan tribunal. The Italian Bishop's Conference in 1990 promulgated a decree in which article 56 of said decree wished to promote the study or cursory examination of the various grounds of marriage nullity by those who may not be proficiently versed in canon law (i.e., the parish pastors).The book is absolutely beautiful in the breakdown and explanation of the canonical jurisprudence. It is a literal goldmine of valuable information, not to mention the exquisite ability of the author to explain so eloquently the nature of invalidity. Wow! This is one of the best books on this topic that I have ever read and I have read a great many. "When is Marriage Null" is canonical caviar, an academic treatise that will most certainly stimulate the canonist who is interested in the field of marriage jurisprudence. Hands down, the finest work I have ever read.My two favorite areas of marriage law are canons 1097 (error) and 1095 (incapacity). Fr. Paolo dedicates over 75 pages (out of 315) to these two areas alone. He brilliantly explains the subjects so well (with real case examples) that I am struggling to see how this book can be useful for the non-canonist. I do, somewhat, believe that it can be an advantage for the non-canonist, but only up to a certain point. This book is the real deal and a gigantic treat for the lover of canon law. It is not like other books that you may stumble upon from time to time that seek to bring the Church's law into the mainstream arena, no, this book is very different. Pure gold! I love it!!!!!

This is a demanding book for someone who is not familiar with Canon Law. Each chapter addresses one of the grounds for annulment, and the examples provided at the end of each chapter make it easier to understand how the validity of a marriage is assessed in practice. Although it seems that most applications for nullity are approved these days in Western countries, some of the cases in the book involve marriages that were not declared null. In some cases the applicant spouse simply wanted to move on with their life and have their divorce rubber-stamped by the Church. If you have never read or hear of this book, note it is a sad tail. However it is a true eye opener when it comes to better understanding the Holocaust. I would greatly recommend this book for personal advancement as well as to use for educational proposes. Too often the tragic past is sugar coated; this most defiantly is not. If you want to read the truth this book is for you. I would not recommend to young children, for obvious reasons. I was introduced to it in high school and though it I was able to find my love of history and my undying curiosity as to why history insists on repeating itself time and time again. My only hope is that this book will open the eyes to a younger generation and my own to better identify that a very similar event is happening now on our planet and hardly anyone is batting an eye.

These book is actually a trilogy of 3 books by author Elie Wiesel. The first is his memoir, Night, and it was superb! A very honest and heartfelt memoir about the sufferings of this sensitive and insightful man and his family during the holocaust.Dawn was a novel with some truth in it and was pretty good. Day was just too weird for me and way too wordy.

What an emotional ride. I've been a Wiesel fan for a great many years and this book most assuredly did not disappoint. He had me from the opening page and I found it difficult to put down. Young and old alike need to read this Trilogy. I am certain, from speaking to many 20-somethings, that they cannot relate and find it difficult to believe that such things could ever happen. Wiesel gives you three different stories, all of which are clearly different with no relationship to the previous story, but then again, they DO relate. You won't be disappointed.

Night should be a required read in every high school. The preface had me in tears as I could hear the wisdom and sorrow of Mr. Wiesel. I asked my 16 year old daughter to read this. Thank you Mr. Wiesel for speaking out, for telling your story with such elegance and truth.

Mr. Wiesel certainly gave an emotional account of the Jewish people during the Holocaust. I had never read anything on the Holocaust, did not even study it in high school history. I am appalled at the rest of the world including the USA for their lack of compassion for all of the victims of the Hitler regime. It hurts my heart that there are people in the world with such hate towards another person. I will not forget this story. Shalom, Mr. Wiesel.

A truly unforgettable holocaust memoir with two gripping fictional stories where Mr. Wiesel imagines himself in quite different circumstances after WWII. Everyone from age 14 and up should read this story as part of "life education." Humanity's brutal histories and those who suffered and perished must never be forgotten.

This is a straightforward account of what happened during the Holocaust to one family. It is a page turner, partly because a reader can't imagine going through the experiences. I was incredibly moved.

If you are interested in learning about the Holocaust, non is better at writing about the times then Elie Wiesel. He lived through it and could tell the story better then others who have tried. I could hardly put it down other then to go to sleep and pick it up after breakfast on the weekend.A must if you have interested in learning about those who lived through that period of human history.

This is not a book of pretty pictures of dream bathrooms and kitchens to get ideas from. This is a small manual packed with very concise diagrams and measurement standards for kitchen and bath layout including wheelchair access. It clearly illustrates proper distances, widths, heights and clearances for code requirements as well as most efficient use of space. Very valuable tool for new construction plans as well as a remodel. I doubt you will find a less wordy, more clear and concise book on the topic. I highly recommend this book if you are going to draw up your own house plans or remodel a kitchen or bath.

I'm a low-income college student and bought this in lieu of the 90 dollar full size NKBA books (I use those at the library as needed). I use this book pretty constantly, and will likely continue to do so until I've committed all of these measurements to memory.It's 50 pages or so... concise and without much flowery language. Theres a glossary in the front to get to the height of the toilet paper roll within a few lines of reading. The graphic design is *ok*... but I don't know that there's any competition or reason to design it into anything other than a handy reference.Worth every penny.

Took care of my handicapped father (as promised) after becoming handicapped from a stroke. Caring for him in a "traditionally" build house was not easy, actually it was a nightmare. One doesn't think of these things when they are young and healthy, but wait until life slap you with health problems, then dealing with it's short comings become a daily battle. Now intend to move and build my "last" aging friendly home (society has changed, caring for aging family is too much work). Will use the info in this book to help keep from making mistakes that that might not be easily overcome. It is a "small" book, but the info is essential for planning purposes. Additional observation: The handicapped showers as configured in this book are too small considering when one may need help while showering. Having a handicapped shower that will accommodate 2 people, one seated and the other standing (CNA) makes the task easier. Even after having some surgeries and you want to recuperate at home with home care (i.e., not a permanent disability) having a real water bath vrs. a "bed bath" (YUCK) is a luxury.

This is an excellent resource. Both the booklet and the digital App that Amazon sells is extremely useful. I am an interior design instructor, and I require my students to have access to the NKBA, National Kitchen and Bath Association guidelines for space planning residential kitchens and bathrooms. Whether you are a design student, or a savvy home remodeler, you must use this easy-to-read guide as the premise for starting any project. This guide will ensure that you are able to design a bathroom or kitchen space safely and efficiently. As an added bonus, this covers ADA, Americans with Disabilities Act, guidelines as well. I think this manual should be in every builder's, contractor's, and home owner's library.

This is a very handy book if you're looking for a quick summary of both minimum code values when remodeling your kitchen or bath, but also gives best practices for exceeding the code to make for a functional kitchen or if you need to account for increased accessibility needs. I've also reviewed the full NKBA textbook for Kitchen Planning and while people that really like a lot of information may enjoy (the heft of) that book, I think this book of cliff notes will work well for most people contemplating a remodel.

We are finishing a basement (including adding a full bathroom) and remodeling a kitchen. Within minutes, I've already got tabs in the book and can see why the current layout of the kitchen doesn't work. This book is full of very useful information and it's easy to read and understand!

First, the pros. I like the writing style, here. It is fairly well written, which is a big plus for this particular genre. The main character is likeable and relatable, and the storylines are interesting. However...In most of the books, the beginning of the story sets up a new Quest that you think will be the focus of the story...and yet, it rarely is. The beginning of each book generally introduces a long-term Quest that is then barely touched upon for the rest of the story. By the end of this book, there are several quests that were introduced all the way back in the very first book of the series that have barely been touched, much less completed. Often, the title of the book will make you think that you know what the book is going to be about...but you would be wrong. There are no alliances formed in the title Alliances, the catacombs are not explored in the book Catacombs.What I'd really love to see is of the earlier quests get completed, so we get the feeling that both the book and the character are moving forward. Instead, it all feels fairly random, and you are left at the end of each book with a feeling of incompletion.

In many ways, this is the best installment in the series. From the first page, picking up where book 5 left off, it's the Mist Village against foes which are out of their weight class, and there is no way out but through. The book is merciless. Richter and his village are being pulled into conflicts and the tension and weight of choices are palpable. Time matters. Decisions to delay or engage matter. His alliances are two-edged swords, demanding more of him, not just giving. Richter has to call on everything he and his allies have built over the past five books and -- very satisfyingly -- his lieutenants have grown into their roles (Caulder, Terrod, Tabia, ...). It isn't Richter against a dungeon or a crypt mistress or a spider queen, or even a rock troll. It's the Mist Village gathering and striking at an existential threat before it is too late if it is not already.

I really like how this series is progressing. The attention to detail is superb, though maybe a tad bit too detailed (or it could just be me, lol).Aleron continues to surprise me in they way his story goes in unintended arcs.I do wish that at some time he takes a break from constant battles in just the Mist Village area to a bit more of the actual world. Bring Richter some place he doesn't have all of the control he usually wields. I'd also like to see a bit more of an unconventional alliance thing happen at some time, like make friends with normally hostile race and convert them to his side.Just my thoughts.Overall though, damn good series and while Aleron's title might be a bit presumptuous or ostentatious, he does seriously give good credit to the title. I think we can let him keep it for now, lol.

This was the first book of this writing style I read. I will say that I am hooked and absolutely will be reading more. I couldn't believe the detail the author used and how he made sure you understood the characters.I loved the progression of all of the characters and the storyline. It takes alot for me to be hooked on a book so hard that I can't put it down and this one did that for me. To the point that my wife yelled at me for not paying attention to her. I felt like I was right beside Richter through the whole book.I will definitely be referring my friends to this series

I can't say enough good things about this book, and this whole series. This was my first exposure to LitRPG, and I came across it totally by accident. I downloaded book 1 on my Kindle, then proceeded to spend the entire weekend burning thru the series. The writing is top notch, and I was completely drawn into the story line. I love the village-building aspect, as well as the characters themselves. The humorous interplay between the hero and his companions makes me chuckle. As a gamer (and a reader) for nearly 4 decades now, I'm thrilled by this new genre and the possibilities it provides.Since discovering the genre a few weeks ago, I have burned through several series by authors like G. Akella, Vasily Mahanenko, Christopher Booth, Michael Chatfield, and D. Rus. While I've enjoyed them all, I recommend Chaos Seeds above all others. If you've read this series and are waiting for the next release, maybe check out some of these other authors. And tell your friends. More people should be able to enjoy these books!

Chaos Seeds Books are brilliantly written. Enjoyable, believable, and the characters are well developed.I've read a lot of good stories about characters who get put through a lot, or are overpowered, underpowered, and get the feet chopped off but still continue walking kinda of thing. However, these books keep it reasonably real. Nobody wants to read about a hero loser. We want our hero to win, not get everything they want and become an OVERPOWERED GOD after two chapters.This series was a DELIGHT to read. I've read series 1 and 2 of other books where they kill off the main characters beloved companion or pet. While bad things happen even to GOOD HERO's.. I put the books down at that point and don't continue the series. This series is every bit deserving of the 5 stars, because it gives the reader and very enjoyable, realistic story of the life of the main character and his companions. High recommend this to anyone that enjoys fantasy as much as I do.

We've studied many "how to books" and curiously the two we found best are both by this same author --- this "Elements of Playwriting" plus his other "Playwriting." From his guides we've written both stage works and screenplays. Distinctly valuable! "Playwright's Resources" alone worth the entire book. "How to Revise" is the only such chapter in any such book.

Catron's latest shares excellent information concerning the basics of playwriting. The finest well-known playwriting instructor of our time, this book is second only to Catron's first (also available here), and one that can only be gotten via private distribution. Uh oh. I just realized I wrote a review for this a year ago.

Really insightful and helpful. Doesn't lace the books with examples of plays you've never seen, but rather gives broader strokes ideas on how to get started, how to structure, etc. The writing is lovely.

have only gotten thru the first chapter, and am discouraged already. The author is telling me I must work hard, study hard, spend many years learn the art of writing plays, read lots of plays and attend at least one performance of everything written for the stage. Only then do I have a chance - a slim chance - of being a semi-good playwright (playwrite). I've been at it for 3 years now and have yet to have one of my scripts accepted for production. Of course none of the insiders in the industry will tell me what I'm doing wrong. Frankly I was hoping for something more encouraging. I am 60 yrs old and IF I live as long as my father, I have only 8 more years - not enuff time to go back to college, (if one will accept me) and get a masters in theatre and acting, and then write something that will out live me. I am greatly disappointed and think my time is better spent watching the cars drive by on the freeway.

IMHO, the very best playwriting guide now in print. No need for modesty, Prof. Catron--the book IS priced far below its value. Thank you for giving us a superb guide

I only have one negative thing to say about Louis E. Catron's "The Elements of Playwriting," so I'll get it out of the way right off.In various spots in the book, he makes critical remarks about both soap operas and the "Perry Mason" TV series that make me wonder if he's ever actually watched them. The writing cautions he connects with the remarks (respectively, always make sure your characters' emotions are motivated, and avoid a "deux ex machina" ending) are absolutely legitimate, but using these as illustrations are simply untrue.In most other books such false reporting would seriously damage the writer's credibility in my view, and indeed it's the one thing that keeps me from awarding a full 5 stars. The one saving grace in Catron's case is that every other piece of advice is illustrated accurately, if not explicitly in the text. He shows quite well how to make your story appeal to directors, actors, and audiences, not only explaining what they look for but illustrating how to achieve it.As with any book on writing, this is meant to be a book of ideas, suggestions, and recommendations to empower us as writers rather than restrain us. Where an accepted "rule" goes against the story we want to tell, we're expected to be true to the story rather than the rule. Every other book on this topic has taken this attitude, but Catron consistently takes the next step and cites plays that illustrate how nearly every rule has been broken by a successful play, and why that play succeeded in spite of breaking that rule.Catron is a completist in other ways as well, taking the reader from the conception of a story all the way to a list of playwright's resources (such as directories of literary agents).Whether your playwriting is a hobby, a sideline, or a prospective career - or even an established one - I highly recommend this book.

As a songwriter and composer, I wanted to find a book to help me write the play part of my new musical theater work. I was delighted when my search led me to this book. I found Mr. Canton's book to be clear, concise, and inspiring. I now have what I need to turn my music into a musical play.

This was a gift and my husband loves it! It even mentions movies he had never heard of.

Out of 4 tries I finally got a copy that did not look like it was dropped off of the top of a building. Still a little dented but pages are in good condition and readable.

It’s clear that Alan Jones, the journalist who put this together, is a dedicated fan of Argento and that comes through with his enthusiastic writing and thirst for detail and knowledge about the man and his work. After the background and discussion of each film, Jones follows up with a review, detailed production information, and shooting locations. Dario Argento: The Man, the Myths & the Magic is the third edition of this book, originally published in 2004. This edition contains additional material and brings the filmography covered up to date. It includes a foreword by BBC film critic Mark Kermode.Throughout the book, Jones gives us interviews with other high profile directors, effects artists, musicians and actors who have worked with Argento during his extensive career. These include interviews with George A. Romero, Tom Savini, and his daughter and often used lead actress, Asia, but the most important voice is Argento’s. The interviews provide great insight into the creative process, struggles with studios, and the vision of Argento. He’s a very confident, driven man who knows what he wants. His single-mindedness can be almost funny at times. It’s clear he’s the maestro. It’s a joy to read his thoughts on his movies and find out where some of his ideas originated. There are plenty of arguments and conflicts covered in this book from quarreling with Romero about too much comedy in Dawn of the Dead to arguing with Fulci that there was not enough gore in a movie. The depth in this book is incredible. Even his relationship with Goblin, the band that provided the soundtrack to many of his movies, is covered. It would be hard to imagine his movies without them.This hefty tome is gorgeous and filled with hundreds of color and black & white photos, stills, and movie art. The behind the scenes photos taken during shooting are really fascinating. It’s a visual treat on top of excellent writing. It could be argued that some of Argento’s magic waned in his later years with Mother of Tears (which I actually loved) and Dracula 3D. However, it’s impossible to argue against his impact on film-making and horror. This exhaustive book is a must for Argento fans and for fans of Italian horror. There has been no more thorough examination of his work.

It's an update on Jones previous Argento book probably about 30 40 pages of new material about the filmmakers more recent films. You can tell Jones enthusiasm is starting to wane with the lesser films Mother Of Tears, Dracula 3D. If you didn't buy the first book get this one to have the most up to date info on Argentos' films. If you don't care for the new films probably isn't worth your dinero.

I bought this for a Christmas gift for my fiancée and he absolutely loves it! Highly recommended for Argento fans.
