I read this and the other S.E. Hinton staple books ("The Outsiders," "That Was Then, This is Now," and "Rumble Fish") repeatably as a teenager. This is one of the few Hinton books that will not seem as dated as others, as it is set in more of a country setting rather than city.Of all of Hinton's protagonists, Tex is by far the most innocent and sweet, even referred to as Bambi by another character. More remarkably, Tex comes out of this book retaining that sweetness while coming to terms with a less than innocent discovery. Simply put, he a good boy repeatedly in the wrong time at the wrong place. He loves his horse and resents it bitterly when his older brother is forced to sell it in order for them to survive. They have an absentee father riding the rodeo circuit, and Tex's older brother has been forced to give up a basketball scholarship to attend to Tex's upbringing. As the book continues, his brother becomes increasingly frustrated and even violent, moreso than circumstances would call for. It is only when their father returns home, resulting in an argument between father and older brother, that a haunting secret comes out, causing Tex to run away.Per his character, he runs to the wrong place at the wrong time, the city and an old friend of his brother who has built a life dealing drugs. The already upset Tex unwittingly arrives at a drug-deal gone bad, getting shot in the process. The shooting ironically causes a healing for his family, and an acceptance of the truth. The whole family learns to look past it and move on, growing.Sharp-eyed readers will be able to find out what happened to Mark from "That Was Then, This is Now," as well as his particular relationship to Tex, unbeknownst to all.I intend to give this to my son soon, for its lessons of blood being thicker than water, the dangers of drugs, and the inevitableness of growing up.

I read this book as a child so many times, the cover fell off...and I finished it at one sitting again as an adult. One of my favorite authors... appeals to every generation.

Tex shows us yet another side of life in teenagers' lives. It is an easy read, captivating but not overwhelming with a few surprises thrown in.

2nd time reading this book. It's one of the best I've ever read. Came in great condition, too.

This was extremely helpful... and gave me hope that I would recover from the most painful breakup Ive ever experienced (at age 44). I would recommend this to anyone who is in the midst of anything similar.

I am in the midst of having my heart being crushed right now and this book is exactly what I need to help me. I'm going to re-read it again and a third time if I need to.

An easy read considering the topic. Author uses stories that many will identify with. He provides some coping mechanisms to get through the really rough parts. It helps to know someone understands how we react the way we do in a society that is not necessarily supportive of showing emotion.

I got this book after watching his Ted Talk that I really enjoyed. It's short, easy to read, and has a lot of practical advice. I found myself taking away a lot of what was mentioned and implementing it in my own life. I am definitely going to keep this on hand to share with my friends and to revisit if I ever get my heart broken again... lol

Reading about other people's journey through heartbreak and healing has been helpful. I hope to put some of these ideas into practice for myself. Everyone should read this book at some point. Whether to heal themselves or help a friend.

Very disappointing if you watched the TED video, there is no need to buy book, no new info in in the book, after finishing last chapter, I said That's it??

This is a fanatic book. Small book with so much helpful information. If you have every lost anyone or anything or felt the hurt of loss this is the book to read.

Excellent book with great tips on how to heal after a divorce, break up, or any loss. The author makes me feel normal for having all of the thoughts and feelings I’ve been going through. Plus, there are a lot off very practical do’s and don’t’s to help the healing process go faster and to not make things worse. I highly suggest this book!

Of course it is still a great book but it is not in my pedestal of a perfect book of other years.I was a LP follower but I'm disapointed and started to think that it has some suspicious info. For example it recommends with a color frame a specific place in Segovia to try a dessert "ponche segoviano", I was happy to find it and find out that the dessert was not great for my taste. Locals told me that there are several better places to try the real one, and in general told that the recommendadtion was not ok to be mentioned with such an emphasis. I did so, ordered it in another restaurant, and found out a great dessert experience.The way the Barcelona maps are divided by zones may not the best distribution, good try in a complicated issue.Best values to improove or to dedícate more lines:The self walk tours routes are the best and a good value to avoid the big mess of information on the webb.Dedicate more lines for the 1-2-3, etc. day recommendations.Mention more info on things that may make you loose time or give more "warnings".Some times the recommendation is not clear, looks like the author wants to be Ok with every body and does not have freedom to write his recommendations to avoid resentful parties.

Not easy to use when downloaded onto a tablet. No advise about camping sites. Lots about drinking and nightlife and tapas but no advise if don't like meat and jamon constantly. I found myself disagreeing on the towns and villages worth visiting - the guide seems to recommend the touristic and commercial ones and not ones that are not which are often more attractive.

I used this book during my two weeks of travel all throughout Spain. Yes, all of the information in the book can be found in the internet, but there is something so satisfying about opening a book and feeling the pages. Also, it was convenient to carry around while in Spain so that I didn't constantly have to rely on wifi to figure out what to do. With that being said, there were many days, after walking for hours at a time, when I wished it was a little lighter and smaller!!

PRINT IS TOO SMALL & LIGHT TO READ EVEN WITH MY GLASSES.

On our recent trip to Spain I think I was the only person I saw carrying a guidebook as most people use their phones these days. But I enjoyed reading the book to my husband each night as we planned the next day. Some days were better planned than others. I used the book before the trip as well to cross check information online.

Always been a fan of lonely planet guides, but this one disappointed me by not covering Ibiza and Mallorca... the previous (2014?) edition covered these islands, but I didn't notice before buying that the 2016 version does not. For how dense (re: heavy to carry in my travel pack) it is, I'd think it would cover all my needs. Now I'm stuck trying to get what I need out of the hard to read kindle versions.

I've been using Lonely Planet guides for over a decade. This one's a hair out of date (given a new version is slated for November) and has a weird SJW bent to it that wasn't so obvious in other LP guides I've purchased in the past. Much of the material was useful, but I could do without the author's biases (which become especially apparent when they discuss the religion/history of Spain). All in all, a solidly mediocre guide.

I have hard copies of Lonely Planet travel books that are very helpful. The kindle version provides brief information then gives a link to the location's website. When I am standing in the Alcazar, Sevilla, Spain, I cannot get an Internet connection. I wish I had purchased the hard copy with their info, not someone else's from a link I could not access. I will not purchase another kindle book fro Lonely Planet.

Ray Raphael’s ten books on the Founding Era include A People’s History of the American Revolution (2001), Founding Myths: Stories That Hide Our Patriotic Past (2004), Mr. President: How and Why the Founders Created a Chief Executive (2012), and Constitutional Myths (2013). The perfect reference book for every American, student and adult. I keep my copy on my desk for instant reference, and will send copies to my Grandchildren for their use in school.

Every American citizen or wannabe should be required to read this book. Things would be a lot different in this country if they did.

This is one of the best books on our Constitution I've come across in many years. The language is everyday, highly readable and the author does not inject his own ideology into the book. Straightforward!!!

I work in a position where I train professional programmers for our client. Most of our programmers are transferring from Legacy systems to our new Oracle system. We have started using this book as an alternative to more expensive classroom/online training and have found it very useful. The chapters are small enough to do in a sitting and the exercises help reinforce what was learned in the chapter. The current users are programmers who have been doing mainframe programming for 10-20 years and are just now transitioning to Windows programming. I'm amazed at the progress they are making through the use of this book.All of the data and sample forms are available online at a website listed in the books introduction. It's designed to be run on a personal installation of Oracle DB, but I was able to run the provided data creation scripts in our enterprise installation without issue. I used our developement environment and created the data without any modifications to the scripts and no DBA security rights (other than the right to create new tables). Took about 5 minutes of setup and then all my students were able to work with it under their normal developer rights.There is only one downside I've found, and that's the binding. For a book that's designed to be read while doing exercises on the computer, it should have a spiral bound rather than normal book binding. The book does not want to stay open, the margins are too close to the binding, and after several times of forcing it open the bindings are wearing very badly after just a few months. Some copies even have pages starting to fall out. It's a minor thing in comparison to the content, but is awfully frustrating for my students.In summary, we've looked at countless resources and have found this to be one of the best (cost vs. effectiveness) training tools for our programmers.

I would say, this book is strictly not for new forms developers, because some of the reviewers have given bad reviews for this book, it is only because this book goes only with some knowledge of developing application using forms. The main objective is not to teach you how to develop an application using forms but to understand, better way of developing application using forms. So if you are new then I would recommend, read Oracle Certified Professional Application Developer Exam Guide first and then try using this book. This book has got an excellent way of explaining things in the simplest manner as well as same techniques can be applied in your day to day project requirements. Same programs which you are suppose to download and you have to work on those are excellent in nature because there are no errors as well as it works in the same manner, way it is mentioned in the book. Last 3 topics about Multi Form Application, Passing Parameters and Menu Application Role concepts, I am sure you will not find such examples in any books or even in manuals. So I would say, it is worth going through this book provided you are smart enough to work on forms.

The book is just great! Finally some misterious Oracle Forms 6i concepts are clear to me! The book format, an interactive workbook, is great for learn an software develpment platform. But i gave only 4 stars in this review because I could not donwload the companion files to the book. All URLs on the book does not work any more and I could not found the companion files on web. Please: if anyone can help me to find the companion files for the book, it would be extremely apreciated.

could be a fairly good "first draft" of a book, but clearly not ready for publication. Many of the primary Oracle Forms features are not discussed at all and what is is done in a very confusing fashion. The entire book appears to be straight out of a word processor.For the money, a user would be far better off referring to the on-line documentation that comes with forms.

This is the worst computer book ever written, this book has numerous errors and is absolutely not helpful. I was very disapointed, it does not contain any text regarding oracle forms, no sample code, no explanation, no examples. Instead it contains a bunch of labs which the readers are suppose to complete themselves without any knowledge.Absolutely not recommended for studentsNot recommended for intermediate and advanced developer either, because it has not information about oracle forms.I ordered this via next day shipping, since I needed it urgently as I am taking an adavnced database course at university.I am returning this book immediately.

This is the worst book ever written. It has so many errors in it that one would wonder if they even edited it before they decided to publish it. If you are smart you will not buy this book. In addition to all the errors, it is extremely hard to follow. There is almost NO text. The "text" consists of tedious exercises that teach you very little if anything at all. Each exercise contains very vague instructions and "Test Your Thinking" sections which rarely make any sense.DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! YOU WILL REGRET IT!

This is a great book offering guidance in most areas of the home building process. Much like planning your wedding, even if you're planning on hiring a planner to oversee and arrange all the different elements it's still important to do your own research both to protect yourself and to be able to properly voice to your coordinator exactly what it is you want. Home building is exactly like that, only with way more steps and areas than a wedding. This book gives a lot of information. Most of all, it gives enough information for those questions you didn't even know you had to take shape. We also really appreciated the info about green building stuff as well as just the general descriptions of the pros and cons of different building materials or types (ex. Roofing materials, types of concrete, foundation styles). There's also info about dealing with all your various specific contractors if you choose to do that part of the work yourself.

This book is amazing. I might be building a mother in law flat in the next year and because of budget constraints I'll probably have to be my own GC. I'm a project manager in my professional life so have the organizational skill-set and have been wondering if I am out of my mind--as my friends and family have been telling me--for considering doing the project myself. This book is invaluable for determining how to assess. I honestly think I can do it. It might not be painless but neither is having a house built--I've done that too.This book would also be useful for people who are having their house built because it describes all the things that the contractor/builder is looking out for in the process. To me knowledge is power so the more you know the better the experience can be. This book can't be anything but useful no matter what role the homeowner decides to play.

My head is swimming and swelling after reading. But I now have a plan of attack for contracting my first home. I need time to let it all sink in. My schedule was to be very rapid but can see I need to slow down a bit.

Content is useful, but dated. I went to find these magical solar roof tiles, only to discover the company was no longer producing them as long as 6 years ago. A lot of opining and conjectures when discussing the project management side of working with subcontractors.I also found the bid request sheets helpful but and annotations on why specifically call out items on the bid would be useful.

This is a great book, filled with a lot of valuable information. I was very impressed, and would recommend it to others thinking of building their own home.

This book is a great resource of information for anyone planning to build a new home. It is written for people who plan to be their own contractor, but the breadth of information provided is useful even if you don't plan to be your own contractor -- mainly because it allows you to better understand the entire building process so you can communicate more effectively with everyone involved and to know what to expect as the project proceeds.
