This is one of the best books on our Constitution I've come across in many years. The language is everyday, highly readable and the author does not inject his own ideology into the book. Straightforward!!!

I work in a position where I train professional programmers for our client. Most of our programmers are transferring from Legacy systems to our new Oracle system. We have started using this book as an alternative to more expensive classroom/online training and have found it very useful. The chapters are small enough to do in a sitting and the exercises help reinforce what was learned in the chapter. The current users are programmers who have been doing mainframe programming for 10-20 years and are just now transitioning to Windows programming. I'm amazed at the progress they are making through the use of this book.All of the data and sample forms are available online at a website listed in the books introduction. It's designed to be run on a personal installation of Oracle DB, but I was able to run the provided data creation scripts in our enterprise installation without issue. I used our developement environment and created the data without any modifications to the scripts and no DBA security rights (other than the right to create new tables). Took about 5 minutes of setup and then all my students were able to work with it under their normal developer rights.There is only one downside I've found, and that's the binding. For a book that's designed to be read while doing exercises on the computer, it should have a spiral bound rather than normal book binding. The book does not want to stay open, the margins are too close to the binding, and after several times of forcing it open the bindings are wearing very badly after just a few months. Some copies even have pages starting to fall out. It's a minor thing in comparison to the content, but is awfully frustrating for my students.In summary, we've looked at countless resources and have found this to be one of the best (cost vs. effectiveness) training tools for our programmers.

I would say, this book is strictly not for new forms developers, because some of the reviewers have given bad reviews for this book, it is only because this book goes only with some knowledge of developing application using forms. The main objective is not to teach you how to develop an application using forms but to understand, better way of developing application using forms. So if you are new then I would recommend, read Oracle Certified Professional Application Developer Exam Guide first and then try using this book. This book has got an excellent way of explaining things in the simplest manner as well as same techniques can be applied in your day to day project requirements. Same programs which you are suppose to download and you have to work on those are excellent in nature because there are no errors as well as it works in the same manner, way it is mentioned in the book. Last 3 topics about Multi Form Application, Passing Parameters and Menu Application Role concepts, I am sure you will not find such examples in any books or even in manuals. So I would say, it is worth going through this book provided you are smart enough to work on forms.

The book is just great! Finally some misterious Oracle Forms 6i concepts are clear to me! The book format, an interactive workbook, is great for learn an software develpment platform. But i gave only 4 stars in this review because I could not donwload the companion files to the book. All URLs on the book does not work any more and I could not found the companion files on web. Please: if anyone can help me to find the companion files for the book, it would be extremely apreciated.

Many of the primary Oracle Forms features are not discussed at all and what is is done in a very confusing fashion. The entire book appears to be straight out of a word processor.For the money, a user would be far better off referring to the on-line documentation that comes with forms.

This is the worst computer book ever written, this book has numerous errors and is absolutely not helpful. I was very disapointed, it does not contain any text regarding oracle forms, no sample code, no explanation, no examples. Instead it contains a bunch of labs which the readers are suppose to complete themselves without any knowledge.Absolutely not recommended for studentsNot recommended for intermediate and advanced developer either, because it has not information about oracle forms.I ordered this via next day shipping, since I needed it urgently as I am taking an adavnced database course at university.I am returning this book immediately.

This is the worst book ever written. It has so many errors in it that one would wonder if they even edited it before they decided to publish it. If you are smart you will not buy this book. In addition to all the errors, it is extremely hard to follow. There is almost NO text. The "text" consists of tedious exercises that teach you very little if anything at all. Each exercise contains very vague instructions and "Test Your Thinking" sections which rarely make any sense.DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! YOU WILL REGRET IT!

This book is invaluable for determining how to assess. I honestly think I can do it. It might not be painless but neither is having a house built--I've done that too.This book would also be useful for people who are having their house built because it describes all the things that the contractor/builder is looking out for in the process. To me knowledge is power so the more you know the better the experience can be. This book can't be anything but useful no matter what role the homeowner decides to play.

My head is swimming and swelling after reading. But I now have a plan of attack for contracting my first home. I need time to let it all sink in. My schedule was to be very rapid but can see I need to slow down a bit.

Think, for example, of the sugar trade and slavery, the Boston tea party, or the role of stolen bread in Les Misérables. Bread riots and food fights are about politics. But those events seem simple compared to what we deal with now, when no food issue seems too small to generate arguments about who wins or loses. Congressional insistence that the tomato paste on pizza counts as a vegetable serving is only the most recent case in point. KT: How do you reconcile the fact that what's good for us as individuals--namely, eating less junk food--is bad for business? MN: I don’t think these facts are easily reconciled. They can only be observed and commented and acted upon. The job of the food industry is to produce products that will not only sell well, but will sell increasingly well over time, in order to produce growing returns to investors. Reconciliation requires companies either to sell less (impossible from a business standpoint) or make up the difference with sales of healthier products. Unfortunately, the so-called healthier products--and whether they really are is debatable--rarely sell as well. In practice, companies touch all bases at once: they put most marketing efforts into their core products, they proliferate new better-for-you products, and they seek new customers for their products among the vast populations of the developing world--where, no surprise, the prevalence of obesity is increasing, along with its related diseases. KT: Why did you want to do a book of food politics cartoons? MN: If truth be told, I've been wanting to do one for years. Cartoons are such a great way to engage audiences. Politics can be dreary. Cartoons make it fun. I've collected cartoons for years on everything about food and nutrition. I would have loved to do a book on nutrition in cartoons but getting permission to reprint them was too difficult and expensive. For the cartoons in my last book, Why Calories Count, I contacted the copyright holder, Sara Thaves, who represents the work of about 50 cartoonists. During our negotiations about how much they would cost, Sara asked if I might be interested in doing a book using Cartoonist Group cartoons. Would I ever! Sara ended up sending me more than 1,100 cartoons--all on food politics. I put them in categories and started writing. The only hard part was winnowing the drawings to a publishable number. But what a gorgeous book this turned out to be! The cartoons are in full color. KT: In Eat Drink Vote, you note that, it ought to be possible to enjoy the pleasures of food and eat healthfully at the same time. Why does that ideal meal elude so many of us? I should also mention that food companies get to deduct the cost of marketing, even marketing to children, from their taxes as legitimate business expenses. KT: On the subject of food and pleasure, you enjoy the occasional slice of pizza or scoop of ice cream, just as Michelle Obama loves her french fries. Do you subscribe to the all things in moderation philosophy, or are there some things you simply won't eat, ever? MN: The only food I can think of that I won’t ever eat is brains, and that’s rarely a problem. And yes, I do subscribe to everything in moderation although it’s hard to admit it without irony. The phrase has been so misused by food companies and some of my fellow nutritionists to defend sales of junk foods and drinks. There is no question that some foods are healthier to eat than others and we all would be better off eating more of the healthier ones and fewer of the less healthful foods. But fewer does not and should not mean none. And what’s wrong with pizza, pray tell? In my view, life is too short not to leave plenty of room for freshly baked pizza, toffee candy, real vanilla ice cream, and a crusty, yeasty white bread--all in moderation, of course.

Marion Nestle is one of my favorite nutritionists. She is balanced and reasonable and rightfully calls to task government policies and deceptive marketing that encourage an "eat more" culture. The cartoons in this book are perfect for my economics class that I teach for students who respond better to visuals than text.

Recently I was reminded of the birthday (October 14th) of one of my personal/professional influencers John Wooden. It caused me to pause and reflect on him, his life, and the legacy he left behind through his teachings. For those of you asking, “who is John Wooden”, here is a brief bio.John Robert Wooden (October 14, 1910 – June 4, 2010) also known as the "Wizard of Westwood," was the men’s basketball coach during UCLA’s dynasty years. Over his career he won ten NCAA national championships in a 12-year period, including a record seven in a row, and his team won a record 88 consecutive games. In 1960 he was the first to be enshrined as both a player and a coach in the Basketball Hall of Fame. ESPN named Coach Wooden the Coach of the Century.But at his core, Coach Wooden was a teacher. The life lessons he taught and his quotes, known as "Woodenisms", have become legend. Fortunately, he shared his philosophy, credo, witticisms, and his pyramid for success with us all and with generations to come through lectures and books.I was introduced to Coach Wooden’s teachings years ago and then reintroduced to them again when a manager of mine gave me a copy of the book, “Wooden, A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections On and Off the Court”. I devoured it and once again I was hooked. In it, he lays out his philosophy on life, leadership, success, and personal fulfillment. He teaches through short simple inspirational messages that strike you as both common sense and deeply profound at the same time.So I pulled out my copy of “Observations and Reflections” full of post-it’s marking key pages and re-read it. My objective being to honor him, but as usual I ended up once again learning from him.Coach Wooden credits his father (as I do mine) with giving him the foundation for his life. In “Observations and Reflections” he refers to the two sets of threes – direct and simple rules from his father about how you should live your life that his father gave to him on a card.Set 1:• Never lie.• Never cheat.• Never steal.Set 2:• Don’t whine.• Don’t complain.• Don’t make excuses.On the back of the card was his father’s creed, titled “Seven Things to Do”. I’ll let you do some research or read the book to learn them.I am always struck by how similar his basic life lessons are to those I learned from my own father.My father a man of few words (or who as my oldest son referred to in the eulogy he gave at his funeral - “a man of few words who somehow could give a one-sentence answer to any question about life no matter how complex”) had his own “rules” or as my children came to know them as “Poppa-isms”. He had many of them, some serious and some funny – but in each one there was a lesson.Like Coach Wooden my father seemed to have an innate understanding of life that he could express in the simplest of terms. My Father passed away this past year, so I guess when I was reminded of Coach Wooden’s birthday I somehow subconsciously connected the two men in my mind.Over the years I have gifted Coach Wooden’s “Observations and Reflections” book to friends, to young people graduating from High School and College, and to managers that I have coached (using it as a developmental tool) in my career - - and yes, it was required reading for all three of my children.Take a moment to acquaint yourself with Coach Wooden and allow the teacher to teach. You might be surprised how familiar some of it sounds. In today’s complex world where at times overthinking things tends to happen, sometimes simplicity is the best medicine. When you waste all your energy trying to become someone else, you won’t become what you could be. This is what Wooden expressed in the quote, and it struck out to me because of how raw and true it was. Wooden’s book, A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections on and off the Court, plays more into mental survival rather than physical. He expresses the lessons he’s learned while coaching, and raising a family. He takes what anybody could be struggling with and shares how he handled it and what he learned from it from his personal experience. It has helped others to get through there rough patches. Wooden’s book is full of different lessons he has learned, but in a style where each excerpt is only 3-4 pages long. So if you’re like me, and don’t like to read long passages, this book is for you! Wooden was a very influential person, and that was shown very clearly in this book! So if you are struggling with anything, he may just be your solution.
